    styles of yoga

The word Yoga means “union, to join, to tie the strands of the mind together.” In general, any practice that involves performing asanas (postures) is technically called Hatha Yoga. There are many styles of Hatha yoga, and with new ones cropping up all the time it can be quite confusing! The best advice is to find a practice that benefits you. Seeking the guidance of an experienced yoga instructor is also helpful in making an educated choice. Here are some brief explanations of the basic styles we specialize in. >

pranayama and meditation
Pranayama (vital life force expansion) consists of various methods of working with and controlling the breath while cleansing Nadis (energy channels) within the body. Focus is also on developing comfortable seated postures, clearing and stilling the mind, cultivating positive thinking, and visualization. Both Pranayama and Meditation are necessary compliments to a Hatha Yoga practice.

hatha slow flow
A slow moving sequence of postures that focus on linking breath to movement through transitions from one posture to the next, creating a fluid, moving meditation. After the body is initially warmed-up, there is a holding of static postures for a few breaths where we work on beneficial alignment to create space in the body and direct the breath and Prana (vital life force energy) to release mental and physical tension. For beginner – intermediate level.

vinyasa flow
A vigorous flowing sequence of postures that focus on linking the breath to movement through transition from one posture to the next. Sequences work through all areas of the body, including standing, seated, spinal twists, forward and back bends, inversions and relaxation. For intermediate - advanced level practitioners and great for those who need to move their bodies to build heat and burn impurities.

restorative
A practice of reclining postures utilizing a multitude of props to effortlessly gain the benefits of a well-rounded Yoga practice. Zero impact, great for any level. Perfect for those who suffer from anxiety, stress and restlessness and could benefit from deep relaxation and stress relief.

ergonomic – yoga at the office
Simple stretches that focus on common areas of the body that are affected from sitting at a desk or doing common office tasks. For any level and can be practiced in a conference room, office space and even in an office chair.
